Heritage

Our strong merchant banking and diplomatic roots began with the co-founding of Winchester Capital  by our Chairman and Chief Executive, Ceasar N. Anquillare and the Family Investment Office of the late Hon. W. Averell Harriman, a Partner of Brown Brothers Harriman. Headquartered in New York, Brown Brothers Harriman is one of America’s oldest and most established private banks (1818).  Ambassador Harriman served as Governor of New York, US Secretary of Commerce, US Ambassador to Great Britain and Russia. The ownership of Winchester Capital was succeeded by the late Hon. Pamela C. Harriman, former US Ambassador to France and mother of the late Winston Churchill, grandson of Sir Winston Churchill. Following the appointment of the Hon. Pamela C. Harriman as Ambassador to France, Winchester Capital was acquired by Mr. Anquillare and his London colleagues. Subsequently, Winchester entered into a Global Co-Investment Agreement with Kleinwort Benson Limited, one of Britain’s premier merchant banks.  This Co-Investment Agreement provided for direct private equity investment into healthcare and technology companies based in North America, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Kleinwort Benson Limited was later acquired by Dresdner Bank, then subsequently by Allianz AG.  Winchester acquired its portfolio interests from Allianz AG in 2006 and has since maintained its strong network of family office, private equity and banking contacts globally.
